Memory verse: “Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.” Acts 8:4
When did the 2300 year period end? (Go back and look at your chart.) __1 ___ __4 ___ A.D. deducting the 490 years from the 2300 years, we find that 1810 years are left. Adding 1810 years to 34 A.D. We come to A.D. 1844.
1. This is the year in which something was to take place? Daniel 8:14 “And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the ___________ be _____________.” We will take a look at what took place in history from 34 A.D. until 1844 A.D. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John tells of Christ life, but what took place during these 1810 years? We know that Stephen was stoned in 34 A.D. after that, the gospel went everywhere, into all lands. Acts 7 tells of Steven’s death.
2. What did the disciples do? Now Acts 8 picks up on what happened after 34 A.D.. “Therefore they that were _________ _________ went every where __________ the ___________.” Acts 8:4 We see just three and a half years after Christ’s death that persecution started against the church.
3. Who made havoc on the church? “As for __________, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to _____________.” Acts 8:3 We know later Saul was converted and became The Great Preacher Paul, after he had helped kill many a follower of Christ.
4. We notice that right off something ease came into the church? “But there was a certain man, called __________, which beforetime in the same city used ____________, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:” Acts 8:9 Read verses 9 – 24. Simon brings in a false religion. He was a sorcerer and bewitched people. He did this for a living and he wanted the power of The Holy Spirit, to use to make money. Not for the preaching of the Gospel. Satan wanted to destroy God’s church.
5. What had Christ predicted would happen to Jerusalem? “And when ye shall see __________ _____________ with __________, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.” Luke 21:20 They were to do what? “When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Then let them which be in Judaea ________ into the ___________:” Matthew 24:15, 6 It was predicted that Jerusalem would be destroyed. The armies of Cestius came in A.D. 66. They withdrew for a while and the Christians fled. The army came again, led by Titus, and they killed 1,100,000 Jews and destroyed the city. This final and terrible siege was in 70 A.D. Those who fled as Christ had warned them were safe. Jesus died in 31 A.D. In 70 A.D. Jerusalem was destroyed. This happened 39 years after Christs’ death. Following the destruction of Jerusalem, came the persecution of the Christians.
6. “And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a _________ and ___________ and the ____________ of time.” Daniel 7:25 “And the woman (Church) fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a ____________ __________ __________ and ________________ days.” Revelation 12:6 These texts’ apply to the same, 1260 years or days. Which was from 538 A.D. – 1798 A.D. We studied about the 1260 years which took place during this 1810 year from 34 A.D. to 1844 A.D. Go back and look at your chart on this in lesson 16B. In 508 A.D., Clovis, the powerful king of the Franks, pledged his support to defend The Papacy. The Bishop of Rome entered into a political agreement with King of Franks. This opened the way in 538 A.D. for the state to be run by The Church of Rome. Rome then made war on God’s Church. “The line of prophecy in which these symbols are found, begins with Revelation 12, with the dragon that sought to destroy Christ at his birth. The dragon is said to be Satan; [REV. 12:9.] he it was that moved upon Herod to put the Saviour to death. But the chief agent of Satan in making war upon Christ and his people during the first centuries of the Christian era was the Roman Empire, in which paganism was the prevailing religion. Thus while the dragon, primarily, represents Satan, it is, in a secondary sense, a symbol of pagan Rome.” “In chapter 13 (VERSES 1-10) is described another beast, "like unto a leopard," to which the dragon gave "his power, and his seat, and great authority." This symbol, as most Protestants have believed, represents the papacy, which succeeded to the power and seat and authority once possessed by the ancient Roman Empire. Of the leopard-like beast it is declared: "There was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies. . . . And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in Heaven. And it was given unto him to make war with the saints and to overcome them; and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations." This prophecy, which is nearly identical with the description of the little horn of Daniel 7, unquestionably points to the papacy. "Power was given unto him to continue forty and two months." And, says the prophet, "I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death." And again, "He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity; he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword." The forty and two months are the same as the "time and times and the dividing of time," three years and a half, or 1260 days, of Daniel 7, the time during which the papal power was to oppress God's people. This period, as stated in preceding chapters, began with the establishment of the papacy, A. D. 538, and terminated in 1798. At that time, when the papacy was abolished and the pope made captive by the French army, the papal power received its deadly wound, and the prediction was fulfilled, "He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity." GC 438, 439
7. “He that leadeth into __________ shall _________ _______ __________: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.” Revelation 13:10 Rome had taken many of God’s People captive and burned many at the stake and took many a life by the sword. This went on for 1260 years, it was known as “The Dark Ages” or “The Middle Ages”. God calls His Church a woman. Revelation 12:14 “And to the _________ (His Church) were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the _________, into her place, where she is ____________ for a ________, and ________, and _________ a _________, from the face of the __________.” If God had not looked after His People, none would have been left. The serpent was working through Papal Rome to get at God’s People. Millions were killed during that 1260 years.
8. In 1796 the persecution ended, it was cut short by two years. Matthew 24:22 “And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake _______ _______ shall be __________.” “The accession of the Roman Church to power marked the beginning of the Dark Ages. As her power increased, the darkness deepened. Faith was transferred from Christ, the true foundation, to the pope of Rome. Instead of trusting in the Son of God for forgiveness of sins and for eternal salvation, the people looked to the pope and to the priests and prelates to whom he delegated authority. They were taught that the pope was their mediator, and that none could approach God except through him, and, further, that he stood in the place of God to them, and was therefore to be implicitly obeyed. A deviation from his requirements was sufficient cause for the severest punishment to be visited upon the bodies and souls of the offenders. Thus the minds of the people were turned away from God to fallible, erring, and cruel men nay, more, to the prince of darkness himself, who exercised his power through them. Sin was disguised in a garb of sanctity. When the Scriptures are suppressed, and man comes to regard himself as supreme, we need look only for fraud, deception, and debasing iniquity. With the elevation of human laws and traditions was manifesting the corruption that ever results from setting aside the law of God.” STORY OF REDEMPTION 331
9. Jesus said there would be signs in the Heavens, just before the persecution ended. One of the signs happened, the year was 1755 A.D. Revelation 6:12 “And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great ____________; and the ________ became ________ as sackcloth of hair, and the __________ became as _________;” In fulfillment of this prophecy there occurred the terrible Lisbon Earthquake. We will have more on this sing, in a lesson coming up. 10. Jesus said: Luke 21:25 “And there shall be signs in the ________, and in the _______, and in the _________; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;” It was to be immediately after the tribulation, known also as the 1260 years.
Matthew 24:29 “________ after the _________ of those days shall the ________ be _________, and the ___________ shall not _______ her __________, and the _________ shall __________ from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:” Dark Day was May 19, 1780 and the moon was dark and gave no light, as black as velvet, you could not see a white paper in front of your eyes. This happened the 1260 years, but after the persecution (or tribulation). We notice that the earthquake was about the middle of the eighteenth century (The Lisbon Earthquake of 1755). Signs of His coming began to appear. “May 19, 1780, stands in history as "The Dark Day." Since the time of Moses, no period of darkness of equal density, extent, and duration has ever been recorded. The description of this event, as given by the poet and the historian, is but an echo of the words of the Lord, recorded by the prophet Joel, twenty-five hundred years previous to their fulfillment: "The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come." Joel 2:31.Great Controversy 308
11. Let’s look at what else would happen. Revelation 6:12, 13
“And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a ___________ __________; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the _________ of __________ ______ unto the ________, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.” This happened in November 12, 1833. This was just eleven years before the end of this prophecy, which was to end, in 1844 A.D. All things that have been predicted came to pass on time.
The 2300 year period ended in 1844 A.D. The message was to be to the world. This work began not long after the 1798 A.D, when the Pope Pius VI, was taken captive, by the French General Berthier. The supremacy of The Papacy came to an end. The supremacy of The Roman Church was from 538 A.D. to 1798 A.D. “He that _________ into _________ shall ___ into __________: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.” Revelation 13:10. People everywhere began to study and preach Te Gospel. . This is when the book of Daniel was unsealed. All these prophecies of Daniel began to be understood. Like the things we have learned in these lessons. Daniel was to stand in his lot, when would Daniel stand? Daniel 12:13 “But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the __________ of the ____________.” The end of days, was the end of the 2300 days. The book of Daniel was to be understood after 1844 A.D.
